Suspected Cable Vandals Arrested in Lagos

The police in Lagos have arrested two suspects, Kehinde Ibrahim, 30 and Yakubu Ibrahim, 26, over reasonable suspicion they were vandals that illegally tampered with electricity cable wires.
The two were charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo and they have been ordered to be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos.
Their arrest followed a random search operation by a team of police who saw Yakubu at Agric Road in Egan, a suburb of Lagos, with some bundle of Copper cable wires.
When he could not satisfactorily explain where he bought the wires, he was taken to the station at Igando division for interrogation.
P.M. EXPRESS gathered, during the interrogation, Yakubu confessed that he stole the cables and had a buyer who encouraged him to do so at Alaba Rago in Ojo area of Lagos.
Following the revelation, he took the Police to Kehinde’s shop at Alaba Rago where more suspected stolen cables were recovered and taken to the station.
Both Yakubu and Kehinde were charged with conspiracy and stealing, while Kehinde was also charged with stealing for possessing stolen items.
They pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola  granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
However, they were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 7 December 2016.
