A suspected fake lawyer, Mr. Onuweri Ewomazino has been arrested in Lagos after he was trapped with N750,000 paid into his bank account.
The incident happened at Orija Street in Adetukunbo Estate in Ikotun Lagos where the suspect obtained the money under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that Ewomazino contacted one Olushola Olubiyi and told him that he was a lawyer and he had an undisclosed matter against him. He then requested that he will only withdraw from the matter if he will part with and pay N750.000 into his account.
The victim pretended to have agreed, asked him to send his bank account details and he sent an account with number OO65404076 domiciled at Access Bank PLC. But before then, Aribiyi had reported the matter to the police who asked him to play along and so he paid the money into the suspect’s account.
Trouble started for the suspect when he wanted to withdraw money from the bank as he was arrested and detained by the police at Ikotun Division.
During interrogation, he reportedly denied that he was a lawyer. He was then charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for impersonation and obtaining under false pretence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Mr. G. Simon did not object his bail but urged the court to give condition that will enable him to come to court for trial.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 4 April, 2018.
