Access to sustainable energy has been identified as a key element in creating a better and fairer future for Nigerians, particularly Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Sustainable Energy for All, said this during her visit to Iponri Market, Surulere, Lagos.

The purpose of the visit was to see the first phase of a photovoltaic system on the market, co-financed by the Universal Energy Fund (UEF).

UEF is a performance-based financial instrument managed by Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and implemented by SOLAD Integrated Power.

Ogunbiyi emphasized the importance of engaging with end-users and gaining insights into the impact of clean and reliable energy on their businesses.

He stressed that sustainable access to energy is not only critical for economic growth but is also critical to ensuring that communities have access to clean, affordable energy solutions.

“Sustainable access to energy is the foundation for a better and fairer future, as our market visit shows.

“This underlines our commitment to providing communities with clean, affordable and sustainable energy solutions while paving the way for Nigeria’s energy transformation towards a greener future,” he said.

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has welcomed the initiative to electrify the Iponri market with sustainable energy solutions.

Recognize Nigeria’s commitment to improving access to energy, boosting economic growth and harnessing the transformative potential of solar energy.

“The electrification of the Iponri market through sustainable energy solutions is an example of Nigeria’s continued commitment to improving access to energy, driving economic growth and harnessing the transformative potential of solar energy.”

“This visit, during which we will… Witnessing the impact of clean, affordable energy reaffirms our commitment to the economy, reducing emissions and helping our country move toward a more sustainable and prosperous future,” he said.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Mr. Abubakar Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank; and Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On.

In August, SOLAD Integrated Power began providing clean, sustainable and renewable energy solutions to empower entrepreneurs in the Iponri market.

By using solar energy, small and medium-sized businesses in the market, with currently 200 connected customers, have access to stable, affordable and clean energy.
