Nilayo Sports Management Limited has scored a major in its bid to instill the culture of marathon race in the social life of Nigerian people as it has just secured a partnership deal in the organisation of two unique races on its stable.

Inside the magnificent showroom on Akin Adesola Street, Lagos Island on Friday, Nilayo Sports unveiled Suzuki by CFAO as Official Automobile Partner of Abeokuta 10km Road Race 2021 and Official Automobile Partner for Valuejet IAU African Championship Remo 2021.

With strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, the brief ceremony marked a significant landmark in Nilayo Sports’ spirited effort to stage the two internationally acclaimed marathon races once again next year after the novel coronavirus pandemic prevented it from organising the second editions of the two tournaments in 2020 in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

General Manager of Suzuki by CFAO, Mrs. Aissatou Diouf expressed the excitement of the company to join Nilayo Sports in the organisation of both Abeokuta 10km Race and Valuejet IAU African Championship in Remo, adding that the new partnership will see the support of Suzuki by CFAO for the tournaments in the next two years from 2021 with guarantee of three years extension.

In her words: “At Suzuki by CFAO, we are so much excited to see this partnership taking off and our involvement in this shows that we share in the belief and the vision Nilayo Sports has for marathon races in Nigeria.

“I want to say that we are not just coming as a brand, but we are bringing in added values to the two tournaments and indeed sports in Nigeria.”

P.M. EXPRESS reports that Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational founded in 1909, known for manufacturing a wide range of products which include automobiles, motorcycles and outboard marine engines. With three million cars sold globally every year, the brand is recognised for its lineup of affordable compact cars.

In Nigeria, Suzuki has been quite popular with the mini-buses and compact car taxis which have been plying the roads over the years.

“Having a brand like Suzuki on board is a massive support for the organisation of the two races in Ogun State and it is indeed a welcome development to show that Nilayo Sports is being watched by corporate world in Nigeria and a testimony that we are doing the right things to develop marathon races in Nigeria,” said Bukola Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management Limited.

“It is nice to be associated with Suzuki, a household brand of long years standing in Nigeria. This sponsorship means a lot to the people of Ogun state and indeed all Nigerians,” he said.

Olopade noted that though the COVID-19/pandemic prevented the staging of the 2020 editions of the two races as planned, the 2021 events would be the talk of the town.

“We are seriously hungry to organise races that will be spectacular in 2021. This is what we know how to do and we will put in our best to do this.

“I am so glad that I had good people around me who are capable to hold forth even when I am not around. You could see how the last Kaduna Marathon was organised. I was not physically involved to direct things, but I am happy to say that my good people were able to put together a good tournament.

“So Nilayo Sports has capable personnel who are so entrenched in how to organise these marathon races in Nigeria.”
