The South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) 2.0 officially commenced its activities in Osun State with a remarkable 2 days programme that brought together eminent political leaders, government functionaries, traditional rulers and progressive stakeholders from across Nigeria, reaffirming the movement’s resolute commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and endorsing the governorship aspiration of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) in Osun State.
The event was carefully structured into three major segments, reflecting SWAGA’s philosophy of seeking divine guidance, royal blessings and grassroots political mobilisation.
Activities commenced with a courtesy visit by the national leadership and executives of SWAGA 2.0 to the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, at the ancient palace in Ile-Ife. Led by the Leader and Convener of SWAGA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo who also serves as the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), the delegation paid homage to the foremost traditional ruler in Yorubaland, seeking royal blessings, prayers and fatherly counsel as the movement begins a new chapter.
The revered monarch warmly received the delegation, offered prayers for the success of the movement and commended the leadership of SWAGA for sustaining the ideals of progressive governance and promoting unity across the South-West. The Ooni further encouraged members to remain committed to peaceful political engagement, service to humanity and the advancement of democratic values.
The second day witnessed the official launch of SWAGA 2.0 at the WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo in what many described as one of the largest gatherings of progressive stakeholders in recent times.
The colourful ceremony attracted party leaders, elected and appointed government officials, women groups, youth organisations, professionals and supporters from across the South-West and beyond.
Originally established to mobilise grassroots support for the presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, SWAGA played a significant role in the President’s emergence in the 2023 general elections. With the inauguration of SWAGA 2.0, the movement has renewed its mandate to consolidate the achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration while strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The launch was spearheaded by Hon. Oyetunde Ojo alongside the National Chairman of SWAGA, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, former Minister of State for Works and former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); Hon. Bosun Oladele, National Secretary of SWAGA and former member of the House of Representatives; and Hon. Ayo Omidiran, National Women Leader of SWAGA and Executive Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
Also present were the former First Lady of Osun State, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola; the incoming First Lady of Osun State, Dr. (Mrs.) Sekinat Oyebamiji; Hajia Fati, Lagos State Women Coordinator of SWAGA; Hajia Lamid from Kwara State; Hon. Sunday Akere, Osun State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy; Engr. Remi Omowaiye, Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority and former Commissioner for Works; Alhaja Faizat Olaniyan, former Senior Special Assistant on O’Meals; alongside several distinguished political leaders and stakeholders.
Aarebirin Hon. Princess Dr. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Lagos State Commissioner for the Local Government Service Commission, Convener of Amazons Progressive Development for Renewed Hope and an Apex Member of SWAGA was also in attendance. Her attendance underscored the unity of progressive leaders across state boundaries and reflected her resolute commitment to grassroots mobilisation, women’s political inclusion and the continued success of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the APC Governorship Candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), Dr. Tunde Lekan Olatunji reaffirmed the candidate’s commitment to the PROSPER Agenda, describing it as a people centred development blueprint focused on economic growth, inclusive governance, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment and sustainable development. He assured party faithful that AMBO remains committed to building a prosperous Osun State through visionary leadership and policies that will improve the quality of life for all citizens.
