The Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria and the Orashi National Congress have jointly condemned the recent media attack on His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili, the Former Governor of Rivers State, Elder Statesman and Father of Orashi region.
The groups described the recent attack as unwarranted, baseless and mischievous.
In a statement signed on behalf of the groups by Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, National President of the Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria and President General of the Orashi National Congress, they dismissed the allegations against His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili as a calculated attempt to mislead the public.
The groups noted in the statement that His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili has distinguished himself in various areas and had served meritoriously in different capacities that deserves respect from all and sundry.
They expressed shock that the accusers do not know the difference between the role of an Elder Statesman like Sir Dr Peter Odili and Former Governor, which is to ensure total peace in the state. The groups said that the allegation of incompetence was a direct indictment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s refusal to call some of his appointees to order as it concerns the crisis in Rivers State.
The Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria and the Orashi National Congress passed a vote of confidence on His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili for standing for the over all interest of the State by supporting the State Governor and Deputy Governor completely.
“We are behind our father, Sir Dr Peter Odili. We commend him for his good advice as an elder statesman and his contributions to the development of the State.”
“We hereby urge Rivers people to continue to support the State Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, and be ready to resist any attempt trying to pull them down. We emphasize the need for synergy and cooperation in order to achieve the common goals of the State Governor, which are targeted at making Rivers State a better State.”
The groups insisted that His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili, not only as a former Governor, has remained focused on role of supporting and protecting the Rivers Interest. They informed that they will resist any attempt to run him down even by those he had helped before.
“His Excellency Sir Dr Peter Odili is not just a Former Governor but also as an elder statesman with great leadership experience. And at this point, he rightly deserves commendation and appreciation rather than vilification” the SYF and ONC stated.
