L-R: Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Babatunde Bank-Anthony, Chairman LIRS, Mr. Ayodele Subair and Chairman of the Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh at the LIRS Office .
The Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr Kweku Tandoh led a team of management staff of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the office of Lagos Inland Revenue Service, LIRS in Alaus, Ikeja in a bid to seek for the support of the agency.
Tandoh told the LIRS Chairman, Mr. Ayodele Subair, who received him in company of the agency’s management, that the LIRS has been a good supporter, but he would love to see more support in the new dispensation at the Sports Commission.
“We always enjoyed the service of buses the LIRS usually gave us whenever we were having international competitions, this we are so much grateful of, but like Oliver Twist, we are here today to ask for more of this support, and more importantly financial support for our various programmes, ” he said.
The former Director of Sports in Lagos State told his host how the Sports Commission has always been tax compliance, adding that his administration at the commission will henceforth compel contractors handling their projects to show evidence of tax compliance before they will be considered for jobs.
The LIRS boss in his response said the agency will continue to give its support within its limited resources. He noted that the Sports Commission has a big role to play to empower the youths by engaging them in their various sports discipline.
He enjoined the Sports Commission To focus more on lesser Sports, adding that gone were the days when there were lots of competitions in sports such as table tennis, basketball, athletics  and others.  He said too much emphasis on football kills interest in other sports in Nigeria.
“As part of our responsibility, the LIRS is seeking the Sports Commission’s permission to erect sign posts in various stadia and sports centres in Lagos State to educate the citizens on the importance of paying taxes,” he said.
