A 40-year old tea vendor, Abdulrashibu Ya’u, has been arrested for allegedly killing a 20-year old man, Hassan Garba, for allegedly stealing his Indomie noodle,  bread, milk and petrol in Jigawa State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Council of Jigawa State.
He was alleged to have tied the deceased with a rope and beaten him to death when he realized that the items were missing from where he kept them and he suspected the deceased to have stolen them.
This was disclosed by the DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is in Police custody undergoing interrogation over his alleged conduct.
DSP Adam stated that during interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u,  confessed that he descended on Garba  whom he accused of stealing bread, milk, noodles and petrol.
“Upon receiving the report, the Police delegated a team to the scene and arrested the suspect, while the victim was rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival and the corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports.”
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam also confirmed that Ya’u admitted to the crime, stating that Garba’s repeated theft had infuriated him, and he had previously informed his parents, but no action was taken.
He said in a fit of rage, Ya’u tied Garba with a rope and beat him with a stick, leading to his death.
He said neighbours reported hearing Garba’s cries for help but were unable to intervene until Police officers arrived the scene. But before then, he had already killed him and when he was rushed to hospital the Doctors merely certified him dead.
“Following a thorough investigation, Ya’u will be arraigned in Court to face the full weight of the law,” the PPRO said.
The suspect may likely be charged for murder under the Criminal Laws of the State..
