An 18-year old class teacher, Mark Okon, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his 8-year old pupil in sex inside the class room and was exposed by the victim.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 26th May, 2025, at the school premises located at No. 20, Akporuje Street, Off Balogun bus Stop, Ago-Okota, Lagos, where the suspect was employed as an auxiliary teacher.

According to the Police, the owner of the school asked the victim to go to the classroom to bring a text book after the school had closed while the suspect was alone in the classroom.

When she got to the classroom, the suspect closed the door and asked her to lie down. He penetrated her and asked her not to tell anyone about it.

However,  when the victim got home,  she informed her mother about what happened and the matter was reported to the Police at Ago palace Division. Thus the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for interrogation.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

“That you, Mark Okon ‘m’ sometime early this year 2025 and on the 26th day of May 2025, at about 1530hours, at No. 20, Akporuje Street, Off Balogun bus Stop, Ago-Okota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile one pupil, ‘f 8 years old, by having forceful sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
