A 34-year old school teacher, Falola Oluwasegun Matthew, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly defiling a 6-year old pupil inside school the premises.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 4th December, 2024, at Grace Meridian Nursery & Primary School, Osapa – London, Lekki – Lagos, where the school is located.
According to the victim’s mother, she came back from school and looked so unkempt. The mother then confronted her before she saw sperm on her pants. She asked to know what happened and the victim revealed that it was one of the teachers in the school that molested her.
The matter was reported at Ilasan Police station and the teacher was arrested. From there, he was transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Falola Oluwaseun Matthew ‘m’, on the 4th day of December, 2024, at Grace Meridian Nursery & Primary School, Osapa – London, Lekki – Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim ‘f 6years old by having sexual intercourse with her without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s legal advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
