A female class teacher at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School at Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State, Aderonke Makinde, has landed in trouble for flogging a 9-year old girl in the school in form of correction.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the girl’s parents did not take it lightly and handed the teacher over to the Police for prosecution.
The Police has charged the 35-year old teacher before the Ogba Magistrates Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, having found her culpable after she was arrested and detained for interrogation.
The Police prosecutor, DSP Ajayi Kehinde, told the Court that the defendant was charged on one count of assault on the victim for the offence she committed on 28th March, 2023.
Part of the charge read:
“That you, Aderonke Makinde, on March 28, 2023, at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did assault one Oyinkansola Kayode, a nine-year old, by flogging her with a cane and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015”.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, E. Kubenje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter till 7th June, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
