Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State yesterday returned to his alma mater, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as a keynote speaker for a lecture on “Ethical Leadership, Security, and Sustainable Development.” The event, organized by the Ethics, AI and Higher Education Strategy Team (EAISTRAP) of the university, drew prominent dignitaries and students.

In his lecture, Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of merit in ethical leadership, citing his administration’s recruitment of 8,115 qualified teachers from 18 states as a practical example. “Teaching is beyond a job, it is a vocation with great consequence on the future of the next generation,” he said. “In recruiting teachers for the Anambra child, we ensured that undue influences that enthrone mediocrity were eschewed.”

The governor stressed that the interest of the Anambra child is to be taught by the best teacher, regardless of origin. “The interest of the Anambra Child is to be taught by the best teacher across the world, not by the incompetent person from his village,” he stated.

Beyond the lecture, Governor Soludo’s visit was an emotional journey down memory lane. As he walked through the familiar boulevards and pathways of his academic formation, he was reminded of the mounting challenges and long list of things undone. His brief interaction with students of the Department of Economics and residents of Eni Njoku and Alvan Ikoku Halls left a lasting impression.

The governor made commitments to intervene in some critical areas of need, affectionately reminiscing his days at the “Lions Den.” He charged Great Lions and Lionesses across the world to remember the Den and roar to its rescue.

The event was attended by the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Ezeokonkwo; the Chairman of the occasion, HRM Igwe Sir Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi); the Chairman of EAISTRAP, Prof. Casimir Ani, and other dignitaries.
