Team Lagos proved their supremacy in the Nigerian boxing with the state’s boxers superlative performance in the boxing events of the ongoing 19th National Sports Festival.
Ten of Team Lagos boxers qualified for the finals of their various weight categories in the events holding at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment at Asokoro, Abuja on Thursday getting set for the finals on Friday.
The following boxers has won bronze on Thursday: Mubarak Kayode 49kg male, Abiodun Taiwo 52kg male, Saka Kazeem 64kg male, Francis Gabriel 91kg male and Adebayo Mutiat 57kg female.
In Friday’s finals, Team Lagos won no less than seven gold medals and three silver medal. Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh commended the feats recorded by the Lagos boxing team, adding that with the seven gold won, it shows that Lagos remains the production ground for Nigerian national boxing team, a status the state had held on to in the last decade.
Meanwhile, Kick boxing raked in 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals with Fatai Balogun winning a gold medal in the 81kg, also khadijat Atanda won gold in the -56kg. Wilkinson Agbeishom got a silver medal in -75kg kumite fight in the karate event..

Uche Nwabenu won gold in the 400m men athletics and Olaniyan Temitope won silver in the 400m menin the same event, while Popoola Aminat won silver in the 400 deaf female athletics.
Hannah Reuben won gold in 72kg freestyle female wresting, the first gold in the ongoing festival. Team Lagos beat Kaduna to cricket gold Friday afternoon at Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja.
