A strong Team Lagos comprising of 573 people are billed to represent Lagos State at the 19th National Sports Festival holding from 6-16 December, 2018, in Abuja.

Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, told P.M.EXPRESS that the contingent consists of 442 athletes, 81 coaches and 50 other supporting staff.

He added that the bulk of the athletes are those who have been representing Lagos in various competitions and have excelled well in the past.

“We are going to the sports festival with young athletes with zero tolerance for poaching. We are mindful of the fact that the festival had been thrown open for all athletes to compete; notwithstanding, Lagos will storm Abuja to compete and show the world that we are building future champions for our state and the country. In Lagos, we are for development,” Tandoh said.

The state has also planned comprehensive insurance package for the athletes, P.M.EXPRESS learnt.

“We have insured all our athletes and accompanying officials and paid the required premium to the state owned insurance company, LASACO.

He noted that to ensure adequate safety for the athletes, the Commission will be conducting a Medical Screening (Blood Glucose, Urinalysis, Full Blood Count among others) on all the athletes in the Team Lagos closed camp, on Thursday, November 29. “This is also to ensure the full fitness of all the athletes.”
