A Police Inspector, Victor Smart, attached to Ago Palace Division in Okota, Lagos, had a nasty experience when he went to arrest a 19-year old, David Goodluck, for stealing loaves of bread belonging to Iregbor Francis as the suspect inflicted injury on him with bites.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the teenager,  Goodluck, vented his anger on Inspector Smart as a result of hunger.

The incident happened at Agboke Street, off Community Road, Ago Okota, Lagos.

The suspect, Goodluck, was later arrested and consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting the Policeman and stealing nine loaves of bread worth N9,000 belonging to Mr. Francis, which he denied and claimed that he only collected a loaf of bread.

According to Police sources, the suspect stole the bread and ate it because he was hungry and had no money to buy the bread. When the owner of the bread asked for money, he told him he had no money to pay him.

The owner of the bread, Francis, then contacted Inspector Smart, who went to arrest Goodluck but he resisted and refused to follow him.

In an attempt by Inspector Smart to hold and drag Goodluck to the Police station, he reportedly gave him bites on his hand, injured him in the process and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The Police later arrested and charged him before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts imprisonment if found guilty.

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs, A. K. Dosumu-Uthan, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned till 31st October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
