Teenager Remanded For Engaging Neighbour’s Girl, 8, In Sex

An 18-year old Onyekachi Okey has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 8-year old girl in sex. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Okey, has been arrested and charged before the Court for statutory rape under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

The incident happened at Omowumi Street, Mushin area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect lured the victim into an apartment, engaged her in the act and while he was still on it, the information leaked to the victim’s parents, who confronted the victim and she revealed what happened.

 

The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the SCID at Yaba for further investigation.

 

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to DPP for legal advice.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

 

The charge read:

That you, Onyekachi Okey on the 2nd day of April, 2024 at No. 10, Omowumi Street, Mushin Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of an 8-Year old and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
