I’m not the Policeman of the Onitsha Business Community, but I usually get emotional whenever I see a local brand excel in the regional/national ecosystem.
Several years ago, I met WF DJ’Alonso Lotanna at Sweet Garden Bar, GRA Onitsha where he started his DJ services for the duo of Emmanuel Ojiulo and Ezeigbo. I became interested in him when he told me that he was combining his work with his study for National Diploma. I watched him graduate from the higher institution and went for his NYSC.
He was not only dedicated to his art, but he was also ambitious and hardworking.
From going to school on weekdays to working with his musical gadgets at Sweet Garden on weekends, SuperStar DJ Alonso became a popular name when soul-lifting musical vibes are mentioned in Onitsha and environs.
I was not surprised when I saw him bringing everybody to their feet during the traditional wedding of Mercy Chinwo and her husband in River State.
Some weeks back, he sent me a picture of a Bus he bought to carry his musical instruments to functions. That demonstrated the fact that despite his success, he is still putting the needs of his business ahead of his aggrandizement, a trait I had the privilege of discussing with him when he bought his first car 3 years ago.
The day he signed up as the brand ambassador of D’ANGELUS Sparkling wine under Tiger Beverages Limited, he reminded me about his journey to stardom which was made possible through the platform we provided at Sweet Garden. That gladdened my heart a great deal.
The success story of DJ Alonso is a pointer to the fact that the opportunity to succeed can only be created by you.
Today, as I go through his Instagram profile, I can only agree more with Helen Keller when she said, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”
