Police Detective have arrested a 25-year old man, Desmond Agbor, who posed as a lawyer and Journalist at the same time and stole a female lawyer’s phone during the just concluded Nigerian Bar Association Conference in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Agbor, has been arraigned before the Area Court in Kubusa, Abuja and the Court ordered his remand in custody over his alleged conduct.
Agbor, who resides at Kuruduma Village, Abuja, was charged for theft and impersonation having been caught during the Conference after he stole the phone.
The prosecutor, O. S. Osho, told the Court that the defendant committed the offences on 27th August, 2023, when he impersonated and stole an iPhone worth N350,000 from a Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Flora Ogan, at the conference.
He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 179 of the Penal Code.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Mr. Osho, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, ordered his remand in custody and adjourned the matter till 10th October, 2023, for hearing.
