After months of speculation, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has formally declared his intention to run for the country’s president in 2023.
He disclosed this to journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday.
Tinubu said it has been his age-long ambition to lead the country one day and he has informed the President of his ambition but yet to inform Nigerians as he’s still consulting.
“I can answer that with a categorical yes. I have informed the president of my intention but I have not informed Nigerians yet. I am still consulting and I have no problem consulting. I have not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of the people I will consult. You will soon hear, because all you want to hear is a categorical declaration. I have said it that I have informed the president, don’t expect more answers than that,” Tinubu told State House Correspondents.
Tinubu will be among the front-runners to succeed President Buhari whose tenure ends in 29 May 2023.
