Togolese, 29, Arrested For Killing Landlady, 58, Over Failed Attempts To R*pe Her

Police operatives from the Ondo State Command have arrested a 29-year old Togolese resident in Nigeria, Gbegele Mustapha, for allegedly killing his 58-year old landlady, Mrs. Adijat Olaoye, after failed attempts to rape her as he attacked and murdered her in her room.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Fanibi area of Akure, the Ondo capital, where they reside.
The suspect, Mustapha, who is a labourer, allegedly sneaked into the landlady’s apartment and attempted to rape her. She was said to have resisted and while struggling with the woman she hit her head on the floor and she later died in the process.
This was disclosed by the Police Police Relations Officer, Funmilayo Omisanya, who confirmed that the suspect was in Police custody undergoing interrogation over his alleged criminal conduct.
She stated that on 17th May, 2023, a case of attempted rape was reported at Fanibi Division against one Gbegele Mustapha aged 29 years, a Togolese national, who is a labourer.
The PPRO said that the suspect broke into the room of one Mrs. Adijat Olaoye ‘f’ aged 58years with intent to rape her. And while struggling with the woman (now late) she hit head on the floor.
“The neighbours, who heard the noise, rushed into her room and saw her bleeding. She was taken to the hospital while the suspects was arrested. The woman later died in the hospital.”
“The suspect, during interrogation, claimed that he was under the influence of the Indian hemp he took that day.”
The Police spokesperson stated that the Commissioner of Police, Jesubiyi Taiwo, has vowed to flush out criminals in the state and added that the suspect will be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
The suspect may likely be charged for attempted rape and murder under the Criminal Laws of the State, which attracts
several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
