A Togolese artisan resident in Nigeria,  Michael Agosu, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly battering his wife, Kafiat Salami, for denying him sex in their matrimonial home in Ogun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Escoba area in Ogjijo, Ogun State, where they reside.
He was said to have justified his action and told the Police that his wife, Kafiat, always demands money from him and consistently denies him sex despite the fact that they were living as husband and wife in the same apartment.
However, his explanation did not free him as he is currently being investigated by Policemen attached to Ogijo Police Station, Ogun State, for domestic violence. Investigation has revealed that he beats his wife, Kafiat Salami, because she starves him of sex.
During interrogation, the father of four children, Michael Agosu  who was arrested on Thursday, 20th April, 2023, for the alleged assault on his wife, Kafiat stated to the Police:
“My wife is always demanding money. She does not allow me to touch her. At night, she puts on trousers to prevent us from having sex. Anytime she allows me to have her, she wears back the trouser immediately after one round”.
In response, Mrs. Kafiat said:
“I am not happy with the domestic violence. Government should, please, come to my aid before he kills me. My ordeal in the hands of my husband for the past 14 years is pathetic”.
“This is how he has been beating me for years. Even while I was pregnant with our first child, he beat me up. Today’s incident happened around 11am. I was washing clothes when my husband came back, and he said he will beat me to death. Before I knew what was happening he used wood and iron to hit me on my eye. Even when I was bleeding, he kept hitting me.”
“He has not paid my dowry and yet we have been together for over 14 years and had four children. It is only my grandmother that was aware of the marriage. My parents were not. It was after I gave birth to my first child that I went to see my father; that was before he passed on. My husband is from Cotonou. He is a carpenter and works in the Mushin area of Lagos” she said.
According to Police sources, the suspect may likely be charged before the Court for the alleged assault under the criminal law of the State but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
