Traders Dump Refuse On Roads At Synagogue Church

Traders at the Ikotun Market in Ikotun/Igando LCDA in Alimosho area of Lagos may have decided to cause an epidemic as they blocked the major roads with refuse generated from the market.

Apart from obstructing traffic, the stench from the refuse dumped on the roads had caused serious embarrassment to tourists especially foreigners who visited the Synagogue Church of All Nations on religion tourism.

P.M.EXPRESS investigation revealed that even the Council Environmental Sanitation section had turned away from monitoring the area following what the traders described as settlement syndrome between the management and council workers.
The three major roads, Ijegun, Egbe and Ikotun/Idimu Road leading to Ikotun roundabout had almost been taken over by refuse dumped at the middle of the roads unabated.
According to the residents, the traders remained unmindful that the menace can bring about the spread of diseases and their efforts to stop the ugly situation had yielded no result because it was alleged that the Council was supporting them.

P.M.EXPRESS went to the market to find out why the roads had been turned to dumping site despite the fact that the market was supposed to have big containers to keep refuse generated in the market. It was discovered that the market had no dump site or big containers yet the traders were said to be paying certain amounts of money for the carting of refuse generated.

When our correspondent contacted the market leaders, they claimed that they had trucks and made arrangement on how to cart away the refuse generated from the market. But they could not explain why the traders chose to dump refuse on the roads.
At the Council headquarters, none of the officials contacted wanted to speak on the matter but referred the reporter back to the market leaders.

The residents are therefore crying out to the Lagos State Government to come to their aid to avoid an epidemic in the area, as they have tried by complaining to the Council officials and the market management to no avail.

Some of the traders who spoke on the matter said that they paid their levies to the management regularly and that some of the refuse might have been generated from the traders at the evening market who operated outside the market.
However, the refuse so dumped were still on the roads oozing out heavy stench and it appeared that there was no solution in sight or attempt to remove them.
