Cadbury Nigeria Plc has been commended for identifying and supporting the development of triathlon in Nigeria.
P.M. EXPRESS reports that Triathlon, which has created attractions and values to the young minds, is made up of three sports in one, swimming, biking and running. Cadbury Nigeria Plc, however, has been sponsoring a variant of the sport; Duathlon. The tournament is called Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon Championships, the second edition which holds inside the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Saturday, 7 December, 2019.
“I will like on behalf of Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU) thank once again Cadbury Nigeria Plc for putting their weight behind the sport of Triathlon. I especially want to thank the Manager of Corporate and Government Affairs of Cadbury, Mr. Frederick Mordi and his colleagues for seeing that this partnership continues,” Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the President of the NTU said.
“Our vision is to take the enduring sport of Triathlon to the nooks and crannies of every part of Nigeria as a means to engage our teeming youths both in and out of the schools to see the endless opportunities in sporting activities.
“While the above is the ultimate goal, the Union is also working to see that Triathlon is incorporated into school curriculum to ensure that students can pursue sports and education without any being disadvantaged just as we have in advanced countries where scholarships are given on the basis of sports participation
“This lofty vision, however, will remain a dream except we have more term-period partnerships commitments from both the public and the private sectors for which Cadbury Nigeria Plc has been setting the pace for decades and will continue to be by God’s grace.
“For Cadbury Nigeria Plc, we commend your courage and use this medium to call on other brands to take sports as viable Corporate Social Responsibility, for an investment in sports is an investment in the lives of many futures and the nation,” said Prince Oladunjoye.
He said that the Union is looking for strong partners to support the course of the NTU. He added that Nigeria Triathlon Union is peopled with men and women of integrity, professional personalities with high level of pedigrees  in  the Board, whose contributions to the national sports and their respective private endeavours are commendable.
