Two Arraigned In Lagos For Brutalizing Police Inspector & Obstructing Officers

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 24-year-old man, Moses Jabaru, and a 37-year-old woman, Lola Abolarinwa, before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring to attack law enforcement officers and disrupt official duties.

 

According to official court documents filed under the Command Tactical Squad 1, Ikeja, the incident occurred on June 8, 2026, at approximately 4:30 PM. The suspects, alongside several others who are currently at large, allegedly staged a violent resistance against Police officers at No. 7, Julius Showunmi Street, off Tiwalade Street, Shogunle Oshodi, Lagos.

 

The prosecution stated that the officers, who were dispatched from the State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, were at the premises of Oshus Freight Service to discharge their lawful duties when they were blocked and physically confronted by a hostile crowd.

 

The charge sheet detailed a three-count charge brought against the defendants by the Commissioner of Police.

 

In Count I, Jabaru and Abolarinwa were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically resisting Police officers and serious assault, an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

Count II stated that the duo deliberately obstructed the Ikeja Command Headquarters officers from executing their duties at the freight company, violating Section 117(1)(2) of the same state law.

 

Count III specifically accused Moses Jabaru of launching a physical attack on Inspector Yasere Adeyemo. Jabaru allegedly punched the Police Inspector directly on the jaw, causing severe swelling while the officer was actively executing his lawful duties. This offence violates Section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

The investigation is being led by Inspector Iskilu Osanyipeju. Meanwhile, the Police tactical team, under SP Banti Adamu, confirmed that an active manhunt is underway to track down and arrest the remaining accomplices who fled the scene during the encounter.

 

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

 

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail with two sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in Correctional Center at Kirikiri town pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

 

Legal experts say the defendants are presumed innocent until they are tried and proven guilty by a competent Court.
