CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
Two suspects, Olumide Oyediran and Tope Bashiru have been arrested for allegedly printed fake Naira notes and attempted to used it to purchase foodstuffs in a shop in Egbeda, Lagos.
The suspects were arrested at Odumuyiwa Street, Saliat bus stop, in Egbeda where they took the counterfeit money to buy three bags of rice from one Mrs Funmilayo Adindu.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspects at Mrs Adindu’s shop, sought to buy the three bags of rice valued at N59,000 they bargained for.
They brought out N500 notes and out of the whole money, only one of it was not fake which he kept on top of the whole money, the rest were fake with the same serial number.
However, luck was not on their side as before they could carry away those bags of rice, the owner of the shop, Adindu, discovered and raised alarm which attracted the residents to her shop.
When the whole money was examined, it was discovered they have the same serial numbers except one which they attempted to used to confuse the victim.
The suspects initially denied and claimed they did not knew the money were fake, but when they were handed over to the police at Area M Command, Idimu, they confessed.
They were charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo with forgery by printing fake Nigeria’s currency and attempted to use it to exchange for goods.
They pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 13 February 2017
