Two employees of a hotel, who allegedly stole the company’s plasma TV and other items valued at N316, 000 appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The accused — Otu Bright, 28, resides at College Road, Ifako-Ijaiye, while Azeez Adbullahi, 28, lives at African Church Road, also in Ifako-Ijaye.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge stealing and conspiracy.
But the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 3 at Relly Dee Hotel, Iju in Ifako-Ijaye area of Lagos.
Egunjobi said the accused conspired and stole a 42-inch Panasonic plasma TV valued at N165,000, a 32-inch Samsung plasma TV valued at N65,000, a wall fan, a DStv decoder valued at N15,000 and a pumping machine valued at N56,000 belonging to Relly Dee Hotel, all valued at N316,000.
“When the complainant, Mr Falemi Roliat, confronted them about the missing items they denied stealing them.”
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Osinbano, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until June 27 for mention.
