The war on illicit drugs may be yielding results following the arrest of two suspected drug dealers in Lagos with 28 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis worth millions of Naira.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Mr. Ikenna John and Onyeka Nwankwo were arrested at Seme area of Lagos with the substances.

Though the police had not carried out laboratory tests on the substances to ascertain the contents but the suspects had confessed that the substances were cannabis. They said that the street value of the substances ran into millions of Naira and they imported them from the neighbouring country to Nigeria.

This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, who paraded them at the State Command, Ikeja, Lagos. The suspects were paraded alongside other suspected criminal elements arrested across the state and the substances recovered as exhibits by the police.

The police boss said that the suspects were arrested on 22nd June, 2018, based on credible information by a concerned citizen to the police at Seme border as some strange faces were seen in the area at Timinata Filling Station at Seme. He said that the DPO, Seme Division, mobilized a team of detectives who went there, accosted the suspects and arrested them with the substances.

Edgal noted that the issue of drugs and drug abuse had destroyed many youths. He warned that the police will not allow the State to be used as transit point for drug trafficking. He said that the police will continue to work with the relevant agencies to curb the menace.
The CP noted that the Command had arrested some drug dealers in the recent past and recovered quantities of the substances worth millions of Naira on both the land and water ways which had been destroyed.
The suspects confessed that it was their business and added that they were unfortunate to have been arrested. They said that they will no longer engage in the business if they were released as they had learnt their lesson.

However, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that it was not the suspects that were dealing on the transborder drugs as they were said to be a syndicate that have been operating through the route before the police unmasked and started arresting them.
