Two Men Land in Prison For Allegedly Defrauding Hotel Of N600k Bill

Two suspected fraudsters, Afolabi Stephen, 52 and Kenneth Umoru have been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for incurring over N616,000 hotel bill in a popular hotel in Lagos and has been unable to pay the debt.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the two men allegedly deceived the management of SH Hotel on Isuti Road in Igando suburb of Lagos by introducing themselves as top executives of an oil company and was in the area to carry certain pipeline operation.
It was learnt that they booked for accommodation and told the manager that the company will soon send money to offset the bill.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects were allowed to make use of the hotel’s facility including drinks, food and other ancillary services including women to satiate their sexual desires for months.
When the debt was accumulating, the management expressed their reservation over the debt and the suspects allegedly issued the hotel management a dud cheque which was detected when presented to the bank for clearance.
The matter was reported to the police at Igando division and the suspects were arrested and taken to the station.
During interrogation, the police was able to establish that they have no link with the oil company they claimed to be working for.
They were charged before Magistrates’ court sitting in Ejigbo for fraud under the Criminal Code.
They pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 26 May 2017.
