Two Seasons Of Life

SEGUN ‘TREMENDOUS’ OSHINAGA

For years, I have preached a powerful message I call – “The Two Seasons Of Life” – the season of endurance and the season of enjoyment. The season of endurance always precedes the season of enjoyment. Those who want to avoid the season of endurance often miss out on the season of enjoyment.

Ask Moses and he would tell you that his majestic appearance before Pharaoh in Egypt was preceded by a lonely, deprived life for forty years in the desert of Midian. Ask Joseph and he would tell you that his rulership of Egypt was preceded by the indignity and shame of being sold into slavery and the harsh labour and pains in Potiphar’s house and suffering in prison. Ask Apostle Paul and he would tell you that for most of his ministry, both season of endurance and season of enjoyment virtually ran concurrently.

Use your season of endurance well and soon, the season of enjoyment will show up. The winter can be a real trying time but it is not winter all year round except you live in Siberia. This may be winter time in your life but summer is on the way. Don’t you ever let the devil deceive you that your winter is forever. Your winter will pass. Don’t let the winter wither your spirit. Maintain your enthusiasm about your future regardless of prevailing circumstances.

The greatest danger in winter is to cut down trees that appear dead, in fact, practically dead. My first trip to the United States of American was in deep winter December 1986. On my way from the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to the city, I observed several trees by the roadside, none of which had leaves on them. Not only that, the trees, at least to me, were dead. I was so shocked just three months later, on my way out of the U.S in February 1987 to see that the trees I thought were dead had come back to life. Fresh green leaves were all over the trees.

You are not finished just because you failed. Endure and soon, you will enjoy. When summer comes, bless God, it wipes out so completely the winter, you will be tempted to think that winter never happened. Your season of enjoyment is coming. God will turn around your captivity. Your mouth will be filled with laughter.

You can turn your failure to your advantage. Those who do not know how to handle failure will not be able to handle success. If you are not graceful at the bottom, you cannot be graceful when you reach the top. If you do no learn kindness when you are down, kindness will not be there when you are up.
