A former Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) and leading aspirant in the Eket Federal Constituency race, Otuekong Patrick Ifon has said that the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel is a challenge that must be won with collective efforts.

Otuekong Ifon made this known when he inaugurated a working support group for the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel and the actualization of his National Assembly aspiration come 2019 in Eket yesterday.

The group known as Believers of Pat Ifon Network, with structures across the four local government areas of the federal constituency attracted sea of heads that speaks volume of Ifon’s acceptability by the people of his federal constituency.

Otuekong Ifon stated that everyone who was present at the event was a contributor to the rising of any self-acclaimed political juggernaut in the state and as such, no one is a political superstar without the electorates.

“It is you and I who made anybody become what he feels he is today politically, so if we made you, we can also make another person”

“Governor Udom Emmanuel’s reelection is an open challenge to the people of Eket Federal Constituency, we must fight for it as if there is no tomorrow to ensure that good governance and sustainable development is built for posterity”

“Three years of Udom’s leadership has brought a sense of purpose, let no one ride on our sensibilities, Governor Emmanuel has done well despite the lean resources and the oppression by Godswill Akpabio” he added.

Ifon stated further that his decision to join the race for the Federal House is to ensure Eket Federal Constituency redeems the lost voice in the green chamber.

“I have juxtaposed all aspirant and myself on the scale, I have weighed them, I can say authoritatively that all are qualified, but there is none amongst them that has contributed to the growth of the federal constituency, including the incumbent as I do”

“I have the intellectual depth and understand the dynamics of oil politics, having been a center player for a long time, I feel the pulses of Eket Federal Constituency people and I have the required tools to deliver effective and robust representation” Ifon said.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the National President, Believers of Pat Ifon Network, Hon. Joseph Okon Mbong, a former councilor in Eket Local Government described the aspiration of Hon. Ifon as the set time for true representation of Eket people.

Mbong stated that Eket Federal Constituency is yearning for a representation in the national assembly that will present for deliberations the problems and challenges of the people, which require national inputs and interventions.

“As a people, our yearnings as the largest producers of crude oil has to be presented by someone who understands the nitty-gritty of oil politics and that person is Otuekong Pat Ifon”

The politics of numbers and strong support base from the grassroot played out when stakeholders from the four local government areas that constitute the federal constituency spoke about Pat Ifon’s aspiration.

Speaking for the people of ONNA, a former Chairman of the Local government, Obong Mfon Unaidet stated that the choice of Hon. Ifon to represent Eket people in the National Assembly is the best thing to happen for the federal constituency.

Hon. Unaidet, said Pat Ifon is a known name in the political history of Akwa Ibom State and should be supported to effectively render selfless and efficient representation that will give Eket the needed argumentative voice on the floor of the national assembly.

Collaborating the same stance, a former councilor in Eket Local Government, Hon. Sam Ibok, expressed delight that finally, Pat Ifon has agreed to heed to the voice of the people and run for the federal constituency race.

He described him as a square peg in a square hole, imploring all to support him for a better representation.

A motion adopting Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term and Otuekong Pat Ifon was moved by Hon. Ekanem Ekanem, and was unanimously adopted by the people.
