How UK Fan Spent Over 2 Hours On Queue To Buy Super Eagles’ Jerseys

UK fans on the queue waiting to buy NIKE made jerseys of Nigeria’s Super Eagles for Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals 

A fan of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Helen Otitochukwu Manufor, who is the global brand manager for Gilbert in the United Kingdom, has revealed how she spent over two hours on the queue before she could buy World Cup jerseys of the senior national team.

Manufor, a Nigerian who has lived in the United Kingdom all her life, shared her experience on the first day of the release of the new Super Eagles’ kits in London on Friday, saying:

“It was an amazing experience for me. I actually spent two-and-half hours on the queue trying to get some of the wears for myself and my little nieces.

“At the end of the day, I couldn’t get any as they were out of stock by the time it got to my turn. My nieces were unhappy when I got back home. I had to go back to the NIKE store on Oxford Street on Saturday before I could get something. By the time I was leaving, they had run out of stock again.”

Manufor’s experience typified the tale of many individuals who went out to Oxford Street on the first day of the sale of the new wears designed by NIKE for Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.

By Saturday morning, when NIKE decided to put up for sale some more of the wears, they didn’t last up to an hour on the counter.

“Everyone wants the Nigerian wears,” Modupeola Adebukola, another UK -based Nigerian, said: “My friends had been talking about it for some weeks now and then we went to NIKE town (NIKE store on Oxford Street) on Friday and despite staying hours on the queue, we could not get. The queue was very, very long.”

Meanwhile, midfield warlord Ogenyi Onazi has given full marks to the present Nigeria Football Federation administration headed by Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick for raising the bar in general care and welfare for the various National Football Teams.

Speaking in London on Friday, less than 24 hours before a prestige friendly against England’s Three Lions at the Wembley Stadium, Onazi commended the hard work and conscious efforts that have led to improvements in travelling and accommodation arrangements, kitting, friendly matches and fiscal transparency.

“I don’t like to compare administrations, but we must say for a fact that the present NFF has done marvellously well in improving all areas that have to do with attention to, and encouragement of, the National Teams.

“Over the past few years, we have been travelling in greater comfort. We stay in exquisite accommodation, and our monies are paid. Whenever there is a reason for delay in payment of any entitlement, we are told well ahead and we always get this whenever it was ready. See what has happened to our new jerseys. I heard it went out of stock one hour after it was put on sale here in London. The players also don’t complain about kits again. And here we are in London playing England. This has been the pattern for some years now; we have been playing friendly matches against the top teams of the world. Of recent, we have played against Argentina, Poland, Serbia.”

The former FIFA U17 World Cup silver medalist and Africa Cup of Nations gold medalist told thenff.com that the NFF had indeed cast a big burden on the team with the manner the Federation has secured the team’s share of the FIFA World Cup money even before a ball is kicked in Russia.

“I have been a part of this team for some years now and I know the difference. Getting the World Cup cash ready for the team even before we get to Russia is a major achievement, which now puts the responsibility on the team to deliver.

“The burden is now out of the hands of the Government and NFF, and now on the players. We are now compelled to deliver. No one can hold the Government or NFF responsible for any poor outing at the World Cup. We are aware of that and we have resolved to acquit ourselves well in Russia.”
