The President General of Umuchu Community, Hon. Ifeanyi Emegwa (Equity), has endorsed Prince Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike for the 2027 Aguata Federal House of Representatives race while maintaining silence on the political ambitions of two other prominent sons of the community, Hon. Greg Amarube popularly known as “Dino”, and Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo popularly known as “Onwa”.
In a statement issued on September 2, 2026, the PG said Dr. Ofobuike, who is also the Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area and bears the traditional title “Ezeakunne Umuchu”, is the only aspirant from Umuchu who has formally notified the community leadership of his intention to contest for the Aguata Federal Constituency seat in 2027.
“From my record as President General Umuchu, only Prince Dr Chibueze Ofobuike (Ezeakunne Umuchu), Mayor Aguata LGA has notified and informed Umuchu leadership his intention to run for Federal House of Representatives, Aguata Federal Constituency 2027,” Hon. Emegwa stated.
The President General praised Dr. Ofobuike for his performance at the local government level, describing his tenure as Mayor as one defined by impactful and responsive leadership. He noted that the Mayor has shown capacity in public administration and has projected professionalism in the discharge of duties to the people of Aguata.
“As Mayor Aguata, Ezeakunne Umuchu delivered impactful and responsive leadership in Aguata LGA. He has shown capacity and has also projected a true image of professionalism in public service. The reward for a good job is more jobs,” he said.
On the strength of that record, Hon. Emegwa said the Umuchu leadership is throwing its full weight behind Dr. Ofobuike’s aspiration for the Federal House. “He has our full support in his future endeavors and ambition, including Abuja 2027,” the PG affirmed.
While endorsing Dr. Ofobuike, the President General made no direct comment on the political pursuits of Hon. Greg Amarube, “Dino”, and Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo, “Onwa”. Hon. Dino is currently contesting for Anambra South Senatorial District under the Zenith Labour Party, while Chief Onunkwo is also vying for the Aguata Federal House of Representatives seat.
The PG however, stressed that the community remains peaceful and united despite the fact that more than one indigene is seeking elective office in the coming elections.
“In addition, there’s no escalation in Umuchu over Aguata Federal Constituency Seat 2027,” he said.
Hon. Emegwa further reiterated that Umuchu values the contributions of all its sons and daughters who are working toward the growth and development of the town, regardless of party affiliation or political platform.
“Moreso, we appreciate and value every developmental input made by all our illustrious sons and daughters,” he added.
The statement has drawn positive reactions from stakeholders in Umuchu who described it as a step in the right direction for peace and cohesion. Community observers noted that by clarifying its position early, the leadership has helped to reduce speculation and create an atmosphere for healthy political engagement ahead of 2027.
Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, “Ezeakunne Umuchu”, has been serving as Mayor of Aguata LGA where he is known for grassroots programs, youth engagement, and community development projects. Residents credit his administration with several initiatives aimed at improving service delivery at the local level.
With political activities are expected to gather momentum across Anambra State ahead of 2027, the endorsement from Umuchu gives Dr. Ofobuike an early advantage in the race for Aguata Federal Constituency. Analysts say support from community leadership can play a key role in mobilization and voter alignment.
The President General concluded by urging all Umuchu indigenes to remain focused on unity and development. “Let us continue to work together for the good of Umuchu,” he said.
