The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has appointed 41-year-old Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the institution’s seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, the appointment was finalized during the university’s 77th Extraordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Prof. Maikudi, who previously served as Acting Vice-Chancellor, emerged as the top candidate among 10 shortlisted for the position by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
Her selection adhered strictly to the university’s regulations governing the appointment process.
The statement read, “The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, under the chairmanship of Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), has approved the appointment of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
“The appointment was announced during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council on Tuesday, 31st December 2024.
“The appointment takes effect from 1st January 2025, for a non-renewable tenure of five years.”
Prof. Maikudi’s appointment marks a milestone for the university, as she becomes one of the youngest Vice-Chancellors in the institution’s history.
