The Comrade Joseph Okafor led Unizik SUG on Thursday hosted the Oji Ofor festival in grand style, making it one of the best cultural events in South Eastern Nigeria.
The cultural festival bursted into limelight with the numerous programmes borne out of creativity incorporated into the event by the organizers.
Indeed Joseph Okafor, a young visionary leader, has cemented his legacy in history ville for hosting such a ground breaking, epoch making and record bearing cultural carnival in Awka, Anambra State.
The cultural festival also played host to a cultural exhibition, which had different categories to promote and portray the blessedness of the African culture. Some of which were: African Foods, African Arts, African Fashion, Cultural dance, Traditional wrestling, Igwe and Lolo coronation, etc.
The Oji Ofor cultural festival presented N50,000 each to 8 winners from the various categories of the cultural exhibitions. One of the winners, Iweama Anthonia Chikaosolu, a 400 level student of Mass Communication, Unizik, expressed her gratitude to the organizers of the festival.
In her words: “As s food exhibitor, I really didn’t have fun because my stand was filled with people rushing to get my food. But my sacrifices paid off because I won a Royal table refrigerator”.
“I will like to say a very big thank you to the present Students Union Government led by Comr. Joseph Okafor for putting up such an event to promote our culture.”
The cultural festival, which was hosted by the Comr. Joseph Okafor led Unizik SUG in partnership with Spine communication, had the primary intention to reinstate the Igbo culture in the lives of the students and also absent the youths from popular culture, cultural domination, cultural synchronization and the current globalists movement which suppresses the African culture, and puts it in a hidden hole; which our fear is that in the coming years, the cultural heritage of the black man might go into extinction, if we don’t all rise up.
Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.
The Center for Advance Research on Language Acquisition goes a step further, defining culture as shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by socialization. Thus, it can be seen as the growth of a group identity fostered by social patterns unique to the group.
“Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things, movement to put the African culture in the hidden holes and render it irrelevant.
