The ongoing Lagos Open Tennis 2018 recorded three interesting upsets in the quarter final matches decided in the Singles events at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, TBS, Onikan.
Tournament number 5 seed in the women’s singles, Slovenian Nastja Kolar was no match for the unseeded Indian lady, Riyal Bhatia as Kolar fell in straight set of 2-6,3-6.
Pranjala Yadlapalli of India, number 6 seed, who won the first leg, also upset number 2 seed Israeli lady, Deniz Khazaniuk in another straight set of 6-3,6-4, while the men’s singles also saw a major upset when Kalenichenko, Danylo number 5 seed from Ukraine upset Zimbabwean Benjamin LOCK in 6-5,6-2 game
The top seeds in both men and women’s singles continues to justify their ratings as they move easily to the semi finals scheduled for Friday.
Men’s Singles top seed Tom Jomby from France defeated Indian Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha 7-5, 6-2, while Conny Perrin from Switzerland beat Tereza MIHALIKOVA from Slovakia 6-4,6-2.
“As a former champion, I’m not under pressure to win this competition, but I will take my game one after the other. Having lost in the final of the first week, I will continue to build my game to make a good impact this week, ” Perrin said.
In other results, Julia Terziyska from Bulgaria beat Sweden’s Susanne Celik 3-6,7-6(3),6-1. Jack Draper from Great Britain defeated Tyler Lu of USA 6-1,6-3. Arthur Rinderiknech from France beat Indian Aryan Goveas 7-5,7-5
