Friends, Let Me Tell You About ‘Uwaezuoke’

Now, before your questions begin to tumble in and flood my wall, Uwaezuoke is an Igbo name, with a literal translation, ‘no one has it all’.

While thinking about some things recently, it occurred to me that, that is one of the most profound Igbo phrases or names, and here is why.

Forget the facades that are put up daily by the majority of us, especially on social media, each of us has at least one thing or two that cause us sleepless nights and force us most nights to soak our pillows with tears; in agony and anguish.

It could be tortuous childlessness, ceaseless poverty, unyielding illness, floundering or crippled business, our incorrigible children, name it. And no matter how much we hide them, all alone in our own world and cocoon, they usually resurrect and force our blood pressure to rise and adorn the toga of abnormality.

But sincerely speaking, and except we want to continue deceiving ourselves and wallowing in delusion of grandeur, ‘uwa’, indeed, ‘ezu oke’.

I am therefore imploring you today, and always as well, to first thank God for the ones He’s already done or given to you, and then keep praying with hope for the elusive ones.

They may come and they may not come. But whichever way the pendulum swings, never, never take your eyes off the Almighty. He works wonders in mysterious ways, and above all, His ways are not our ways.

Thanks so much for reading. Enjoy your weekend, and please always have it at the back of your mind that truly and sincerely, Uwaezuoke.
