Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer for the November 2021 Governorship election in Anambra State, was at his home church, St Vincent Catholic Church, Amesi, on Sunday, July 4, 2021, where the women leaders of his campaign Organisation held a thanksgiving service to celebrate his victory at the PDP primary election.

The Women Coordinators from the 21 Local Government Areas in Anambra State were led by Rt. Hon. Eucharia Azodo, a former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and the Director for Women and Welfare for the VCO Campaign Organisation.

Mr Ozigbo emerged as the PDP candidate after securing a majority of the votes at the PDP primary election held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

In her remarks, Mrs Amaka Tamuno, the Woman Coordinator of the VCO Campaign Organisation in Awka South, revealed that the thanksgiving service to fulfil a pledge they had made in the run-up to the primary election.

“In one of our many prayer sessions before the primary, we recognised the place of God in our activities and promised to come to him in thanksgiving,” Mrs Tamuno said.

“So we have come, in the company of our leader, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, to thank God for guiding us to a successful outing at the primary election.”

“We also want to make another pledge that we will come back here in November when the Lord Almighty completes the work he has started and Mr Ozigbo becomes the Governor of Anambra State,” she added.

In his address to the congregation at the thanksgiving service held in his honour, Ozigbo expressed his gratitude to God for making his victory at the primary election possible.

Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, said the choice of St. Vincent, Amesi, for the thanksgiving was symbolic as it is the place where everything began for him.

“St. Vincent, Amesi is my home Church. It is where I grew spiritually and learnt the importance of love, empathy, and community. I thank my women leaders for recognising this and celebrating me and appreciating God in the Church where it all began,” Ozigbo said.

“I want to extend my appreciation to the good people of Amesi, who have been instrumental in whatever successes we have achieved.”

“As we celebrate my victory at the primary election, I want to reiterate my promise to God and the people of Anambra that our dear state will experience remarkable progress if given the mandate to serve our people.”

“I want to assure you that with God on our side, we will emerge victorious at the polls, and you will be proud that your son is the best Governor Anambra has ever had,” Ozigbo added.

In his sermon, the parish priest, Rev Fr Chris Ezeonyemalu, whose spoke on the topic ‘Faith and Works’, said Ozigbo’s victory was an example of how faith can bring dreams to reality.

Rev Fr Ezeonyemalu and the congregation prayed for Ozigbo, asking God to ensure his victory at the general election.

The event was graced by several notable guests, including Okey Okpala, a former member of the Anambra PDP State Executive Committee; Chief Ikechukwu Akaeze, a former Chairman of the PDP in Dunukofia LGA; Mr Robert Umeozulu; Nze Afam Okpalauzuegbu, a former of the PDP in Amesi Ward; Mrs Oby Mezi, the Woman Leader of the VCO Youth Movement, and several members of the VCO Campaign Organisation.
