With the release of the names of the new appointees on Monday, President Bola Tinubu replaced the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
President Tinubu appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kayode Egbetokun to replace IGP Baba, who former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed in April 2021.
The President directed Mr. Egbetokun to serve in an acting capacity pending his confirmation in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Tinubu’s move yesterday was widely anticipated as he made security his optimum priority. And with the decoration of Mr. Egbetokun today by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, he will function in acting capacity pending official confirmation.
The decoration was witnessed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the SGF, Senator George Akume, Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the new National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and other top Government functionaries.
