A 24-year old security guard, Ogala Joseph, has confessed before the Police in Lagos that he wanted to kill his colleague, Inupe Sanctus, and that was why he used a bottle to smash his head during their night duty.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Joseph was arrested, charged before the Court after investigation and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine for attempted murder of his colleague, Inupe Sanctus, during their night duty in Lagos.
He pleaded guilty and told the Court that his mission was to kill Sanctus instantly but regretted that he did not die on the spot.
The incident happened at Anite Crescent in Okota area of Lagos, where they worked as night guards.
It was gathered that Joseph had a disagreement with Sanctus over an undisclosed matter. He then brought a bottle, smashed his colleague’s head from the back and inflicted deep injury on him.
The victim, Sanctus, collapsed and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was revived and treated before the matter was reported to the Police at Okota Division.
The suspect was then arrested and detained at the Station where he admitted that the victim provoked him and he felt like killing him.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Isolo Magistrates Court for attempted murder and he pleaded guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Mr Oje Uagbale, then asked the Court to sentence accordingly after he presented the facts of the matter before the Court, to serve as deterrent to other persons who might want to commit such crime.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Teluwo, found him guilty as charged and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment accordingly.
Joseph was taken to Kirikiri Prison custody, where he will spend the next seven years for the act probably caused by anger.
