The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has debunked a misleading news headline published by Opera News – an online blog – wherein it was reported that the Anambra State Government has banned sales of Land in Awka and Environs.
According to a source at the Ministry, “the headline is false and misleading, and does not represent the true position of government”.
The Ministry in pursuance of its statutory function, published a list of UNAPPROVED ESTATES in the State.
Stating further, the source clarified that the published list contained names of Estates, where the Developers have not secured approval or submitted layout plans in line with the extant laws. The source further confirmed that the Ministry is poised to enforce the observance of minimum standards in the development of Estates in the State. This includes submitting the layout plan showing the proposed location of buildings and other facilities green areas, recreational areas etc.
The Ministry has urged those affected to liaise with the Town Planning Department of the Ministry and regularise their status by submitting the required documents and paying the necessary fees.
It was also revealed that the names of more Estates will be published in the coming days. Thus, the Ministry has urged new developers to obtain requisite approvals before commencing construction works.
