The National Chairman, Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) and Executive Vice Chairman of Ikorodu LGA, Lagos State, Aarebirin Hon.( Dr) Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has posted that we should have a society where mental wellbeing is given top priority.
While commemorating the 2023 World Mental Health Day with the theme “Mental Health Is A Universal Human Right”, Hon Princess Folashade, who is the Global Director General,
Asiwaju Distinguished Ambassadors Movement (ADAM), said,” I wish to urge each and everyone of us to please pay more attention to our mental wellbeing as well as those around us. We are here for all of us”.
“The challenges that we all face today  have tested our resilience especially on the social media with the attendant societal pressure, which has left many facing emotional and psychological burdens that had taken great toll on their mental wellbeing. It is very important that we recognize the significance of mental health and take proactive and collective action to support those who are affected in any way to help them towards successful healing process.”
“As we all strive for a more robust and  promising nation, let us prioritize engaging our youths in honest conversations, which will enhance their mental health, help them manage their emotions and expectations better, while promoting healthy relationships and ultimately improve their productivity and unleash their great potentials.”
“Let us create a genuine culture of understanding and empathy, breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Everyone of us has a great role  to play in this global scourge.
At this juncture, I plead with our Fathers, Mothers, quintessential  Leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, NGOs and all well meaning Nigerians to support the Government in showing concern and care for those seeking help.”
“We must all make it a priority to create a society where mental wellness is a Must and every individual feels valued and relevant as great contributors to societal growth.
My humble appeal to us all today and always, is for us all to build healthier, loving, flourishing and a more compassionate nation for all. We are here for all of us!” Dr Folashade Olabanji-Oba concluded.
