The residents of Orisumbare in Shasha area of Lagos will never forget in a hurry how the officials of Ikeja Electric carried out their threat that the area will remain in darkness and consequently removed their transformer.

For several months, the area had been in darkness and it appears it will remain so because the marketers are angry with them for protesting over outrageous estimated bills they wanted them to pay.

Subsequently, the matter became worse when the officials of the distribution company, Ikeja Electric, removed the transformer. With that, even those who have bought the pre-paid meters cannot have access to power supply because some residents are owing arrears of electricity bills.

When our undercover investigator spoke to the officials of the Ikeja Electric, they said the area had not been paying their bills and they were not able to meet the targets set by the Distribution Company’s Management every month.

On the fate of those using prepaid meters, they said the instruction was to remove the transformer, which they have done. He posited that if the prepaid meter owners want the light to be restored, they should come forward and pay the accumulated bills owed by the residents.

Some of the residents, who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS, said that the Ikeja Electric officials in the area have shown the height of cruelty and man’s inhumanity to fellow human.

One of the residents, Mrs. Joy Savage, said assuming that some residents were owing arrears of bills, what of those who have prepaid meters, who were equally using the power transformer.
She narrated that when they went and met with some of the officials of Ikeja Electric, they said the prepaid meters users should go and pay all the outstanding bills before they will restore the light to the residents.

When P.M.EXPRESS correspondent contacted the Management of Ikeja Electric in the area, he said that it was wrong to remove the transformer but he cannot do anything about it foreclosing the restoration of light in the area.
