Police operatives from Shasha Division in Lagos have arrested a 33-year old staff of WestCare Hospital, Victor Ojelade, for allegedly stealing N10,000 belonging to the hospital.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Samuel Street, Akowonjo area of Lagos, where the hospital is located.
According to the Police, a patient, who had no cash to pay for hospital bills transferred the money to Ojelade’s account with the intention that he will withdraw the money and pay into the hospital’s account.
However, when the hospital’s top female manager, who had a disagreement with Ojelade for getting married without informing her got to know, she handed him over to the Police and alleged that he stole the money and he should be prosecuted for stealing.
It was gathered that at the Police Station, the DPO was said to have tried to resolve the matter and even offered to refund the money, which Ojelade also offered to withdraw and pay cash to the management.
However, the management refused and insisted that Ojelade should be prosecuted in order to serve as deterrent to other staff who may want to try such in future.
The Police found him culpable and then charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence but the defendant denied and pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, having listened to the complainant as represented by one of the hospital staff, who told the Court that the management does not want settlement and wanted Ojelade to be prosecuted and sentenced accordingly if he was found guilty of stealing.
However, the Court granted him bail and subsequently released him to his sister, who was present in Court, who must ensure   that Ojelade will come to Court and face trial.
The matter was adjourned till 24th April, 2023, for definite trial.
