Respected Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, has said that the group has plans in motion to stage a protest at the Rivers State House of Assembly and possibly take the Assembly to Court for defaming the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Her Excellency Prof Ngozi Odu in their purported impeachment move.
The ONC made the disclosure in a statement on Friday 9th January, 2026, signed by the President General, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe.
The notable group said, “Following reports in the news space about the purported impeachment move being hatched by the Rivers State House of Assembly against the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, the ONC had earlier called the attention of President Tinubu and the National Assembly for urgent intervention”.
“However, having made the call for immediate intervention to the President and the National Assembly, we have plans in motion to stage a protest against the Rivers State House of Assembly for defaming the Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, in their purported move.”
“For the records, Prof Ngozi Odu, who is currently the Deputy Governor of our beloved state, had before now held different positions and served creditably well in all. She was called to join Sir Siminalayi Fubara to serve Rivers State based on merit and track record.”
“The ONC therefore, states that we consider it very wrong to mention the name of the Deputy Governor in anything untoward. We have as a result decided not just to protest against the impeachment move but will approach the law Court in order to clear the name of our beloved Orashi daughter and esteemed mother, Prof Ngozi Odu.”
“While we reaffirm our total support for His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara and the Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, it must be noted that the budget approved during the period that there was emergency rule in our state had the imprimatur of the National Assembly and Mr. President. It must also be stated that Prof Ngozi Odu had no hand in the apppropriation and disbursement of Rivers State funds and should not be defamed for the sake of politicians.”
