Head Coach of 36 lion Football Club, Akinshola Akinrele has expressed disappointment that his team lost 6-7 in a penalty shootout after a barren draw with Vandrezzer in the round of 16 Winners Golden Bet Lagos State Challenge Cup.
Akinrele in a chat with Journalists commended his players for their fighting spirit showed against their opponents. He revealed that his boys were outstanding in the game but noted that they were unlucky when it came to the penalty shootouts.
“I am happy that we did not lose at the regulation time considering our opponents’ football pedigree in Lagos. My boys showed spirit of resilience throughout the game but like I said we were not lucky on penalties, “he said.
Asked if their opponents deserved to win the game, Akinrele said their opponents were not better insisted that they were lucky to have won through a penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, the quarter-final matches of the Lagos FA Cup begins today at Strong Tower Academy sports centre in Ikorodu.
In the fixtures released by the organizers, Gbagada FC face Ighalo FC, while Vandrezzer battle Messiah FC in the second match of the day.
