WGB Lagos FA Cup: Ighalo FC In First-Ever Q/Final, MFM, Gbagada Cruise On

Ighalo Football Club are the only grassroots club that booked a place in the quarterfinal stage of the Winners Golden Bet Lagos State Challenge Cup taking place at the Alade Sports Centre, Ipaja Command, Alimosho, Lagos.

Ighalo FC won their five matches before reaching the round of 16. A 2-1 victory over Emmaydinho on Tuesday saw them through to reach their first-ever quarter-final stage.

Two goals from Chinonso Anike and Saliman Ahmadu confirmed their supremacy over their opponents. The match lived up to expectations as both teams played purposeful football throughout the encounter

Ighalo coach, Ambrose Duru disclosed that the game was tough but noted that his boys were more determined to have won the game. The ex-international who was happy about the victory said they would go back home and prepare for the quarter-final game against Gbagada FC.

Meanwhile a premier club, MFM walloped Billionaire FC 3-0 to reach the quarter-final stage. Although MFM who started their game unimpressive note scored got their opening goal through their first goal in 41st minutes through Adebayo Oyedele.

The MFM who used the experience to defeat their opponents got their two goals through Mbonu Micheal and Dennis Obasi to send their opponents out of the competition.

MFM assistant coach, Gbenga Adedipe confessed that they underrated their opponents in the first half but played better in the second half to kill the game. He said he was not happy about the team’s performance charged his players to play better in their next game.

Gbagada FC also booked a place in the quarter-final after defeating Young Stars 9-8 in the penalty shootout after a barren draw at the regulation time.

Action resumes on Wednesday when Dannaz and FC Robo would battle each other at 9am. Defending champions, Smart City face Atlantic Business, while Vandrezzer FC would meet stiffer opponents, 36 Lion FC at 1pm as May FC and Messiah FC would be at war at 3pm
