Who Are You – An Idiot, Tribesmen Or Citizens In Imo State?

PRINCE EZE UGOCHUKWU

“Greeks were the first people to come up with the first known cultured society around 505 B.C.
It was characterised by civility and order which made the establishment of early academies of philosophy, astrology, science and art possible” (unquote).

According to the Greeks, there are three sets of people that make up every community, society or nation. They are “the idiots, the tribesmen, and the citizens”.

The “idiots” describe people who just don’t care about their society.
An ‘idiot’ as a conceited person out to maximise anything for his or her own interests without considering the rest.
They do not think about the improvement or development of anything. For instance, if the idiots are in any position of authority, they abuse and misuse the powers of their office and just do anything they like. They can even flood a church with miscreants to shout and clap without regards to the solemnity of the service and Godly ministration.

The “tribesmen” look at everything from the point of view of certain inclinations of theirs. These are people that believe in you only if you are part of their tribe or from their own part of the world, clan or zone.  A huge percentage of leaders are tribesmen, because they view everything from the perspective of their tribe, clan or religious affiliations; they trust only their vlansmen, or tribesmen. Today in Imo State, you see the tendency of zonal agitation for power just to please one man. You see those who use their Anglican-ness as a weapon of warfare to destroy people from other Christian faith just to gain power.

These are people with a clanish mentality and cannot think beyond their clan or small groups sphere. They will form organisations that only cater for their clan and will not accommodate any other person who happens to be different from them. Even a Chieftaincy title to somebody outside their clan becomes an issue for them.

They will not accommodate dissenting views that try to accommodate other clans or which try to improve the well-being of others. Their only primary allegiance is to the clan and zone. Their clan is ‘god’ and they worship clanishness as a religion. You can see them refusing to give the first citizen of Imo State a Chieftaincy title. And you wonder.

‘The Citizen’, is the ideal person like His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma. This is someone who has the skills and knowledge of understanding public life. The citizen always realises he or she is a member of the commonwealth and always strives for the common good of all by coming up with suggestions on how to improve society.

The “citizens” like to do things the right way. Citizens promote projects that benefit everyone like the Owerri – Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe road infrastructures. The 305 Health Centres in the 305 electoral wards in Imo State. The empowerment of 15,000 Imo youths, the recovery of stolen public properties etc.

What we all need is serious retrospection and sober reflection, from the rulers down to followers.
Who Are You – An  Idiot, tribesmen or citizens?

The idiots and tribesmen can be reformed. We can still salvage Imo but we all need a change of attitude and mindsets. Patriotism is all we need, and patriotism is all about putting your state first before anything.

Think about anything you do; does it make Imo State better or not?

Support your Governor, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma!
