A Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, philanthropist and politician, Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Ike Cubana, has mentioned why Cubana Group, a conglomerate, has continued to donate infrastructural facilities to Oba community in Idemili South Local Government area of Anambra State.
While presenting a 500KVA and 300KVA transformers donated by Cubana Group to Oba community on Tuesday, 6th January, 2026, Hon. Iyiegbu pointed that the gestures by the Cubana Group go beyond politics, as it is purely embedded in humanity.
He said, “Cubana Group donated two transformers to Oba community in support of what our governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, is doing under the Public, Private Community Partnership (PPCP)”.
“Cubana Group donated one 500KVA to Aborji village, Oba. This will light up Merchant of Light School, Oba; Ugwuwe Primary School, Good Shepherd Church, Afor Oba market, and the environs.”
“This village has not had light in the past 2 to 3 years. The old transformer that has been there since 1979 broke down for the past 3 years, and since then, the people have not enjoyed electricity.”
“So, we, the Cubana Group, being a philanthropic family, decided to say to our people, cry no more. I believe that in a space of one week, Aborji village and its environs will wittiness unprecedented electricity supply.”
“We also donated 300KVA to Umuogali village, to cover residential buildings there. This is just part of what the Cubana Group is doing in support of the government of Governor Charles Soludo in his efforts to develop Anambra communities.”
“We have, before now, tarred about 8kms of roads in Oba. But we don’t sing praises of what we do. These are just part of giving back to the society. We don’t make noise about them.”
On the motivation behind the gestures, Ike Cubana noted that such gestures have no political undertones as misconstrued in many quarters.
“Even before politics, Cubana Group has been into philanthropy. This is why wherever you see Cubana Group around, people always rally around them. We believe in almsgiving – we believe in giving back to the society – we believe in uplifting the downtrodden.”
“Our late father, being a principal, and our mother, being a headmistress, impacted on the society. Today, we’re continuing from where our parents stopped in imparting on the society in our own way. There is no political connotation behind what we’re doing. We’ve been doing this before I joined active politics,” he explained.
