Yesterday’s heavy downpour in Awka and Anambra State seems to have given us a foretaste of what is to come.
The Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA) Managing Director, Osy Onuko, posted a video showing the practical essence and benefit of a properly desilted drainage to the environment.
For the first time in many years, Ziks Avenue, Awka, Anambra State Capital, witnessed free flow of flood through the drains instead of the roads and alleys.
It is for this reason that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR has continued to stress that people should desilt their drainages and gutters.
If water does not flow freely through its channels, it would only flow into the roads or people’s houses, resulting in unpleasant consequences.
It is noticeable however that after the rain some plastic wastes, dumped into the drainage were washed up.
Government is calling on Ndi Anambra to desilt their drainages and gutter so that the impending rain water can flow through their channels instead of veering into the roads, houses and and market stalls.
People are also warned to desist from throwing pure water satchets, plastics and refuse into drainages.
Dispose your wastes/refuse at the right places that have been designated by the Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) or face the consequences of your action.
