A 42-year old man, Mr. Henshawell Ogbuenyi has opened up and revealed that he had been a victim of domestic violence as his wife, Mrs. Rita, 28, had taken delight in beating him in their matrimonial home in Lagos.

The alleged assault took place at House 18, Diamond Estate in Ikeja area of Lagos where they resided.

P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that the embittered husband told the police that whenever there was a little disagreement between him and his wife, she will use the opportunity to beat and inflict injuries on him. He lamented that his wife, Rita had oppressed and intimidated him to the extent that he became helpless and became very afraid of her within their matrimonial home.

The embattled Henshawell revealed that his wife had enormous strength and he had tried in the past to control her only to discover that he could not match her power. He then restricted himself but it did not stop her constant beating.

It was gathered that Mr. Henshawell became afraid that he might be beaten to death one day if he did not do anything and so he decided to cry out.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the assault came to the open recently when Henshawell went to the police and reported Rita. She was arrested and charged before Ogba Magistrates court for assault, intimidation and battery.

The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John informed the court that the complainant was the husband to defendant and that the assault and intimidation had become unbearable before the matter was reported to the police and then brought to the court.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka granted Rita bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety who will show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

The defendant was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 22 May, 2018.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the family members had indicated interest to resolve the matter out of court and possibly make peace between the couple.
